YAPEAL was founded in 2018 by a group of friends - affectionately referred to as the "Ten Musketeers" - who were experts in banking, finance, and technology. Their mission was to bring innovation to the traditional banking sector, identifying issues such as excessive and opaque fees, slow processes, and technological shortcomings as key obstacles in the industry. To address these challenges, YAPEAL introduced entirely new ways for its private customers (B2C) to receive, manage, and transfer money - all through an intuitive app at their fingertips.

In just under a year after its establishment, YAPEAL obtained a VISA Principal License in 2019, and the following year, it became the first company to receive the newly created FINMA fintech license, along with access to the Swiss Interbank Clearing (SIC)—the central payment system of the Swiss National Bank (SNB)

With Abacus Research and Bank Vontobel joining as both shareholders and clients, YAPEAL realized the immense potential of its Digital First platform, which could provide value not only to its initial target group of private customers but also to businesses. By embedding financial products into their value chains and customer experiences, YAPEAL aimed to enhance operational efficiency, improve customer interactions, and drive growth. This marked the beginning of a successful transformation, enabling the delivery of financial products to businesses across various industries in a B2B2x model.

As of 2024, with a renewed strategic focus on embedded finance, YAPEAL successfully closed a financing round backed by its existing shareholders and new investors to support its relaunch set for April 2025.

Throughout this period, the team has stayed proactive, and as a result of word-of-mouth recommendations, YAPEAL is now proud to offer its financial services to over 800 businesses in Switzerland. This achievement reflects the strong demand from businesses to own and control the financial products they use and offer to their customers, as well as YAPEAL’s ability to deliver best-in-class embedded financial solutions. And this is only the beginning.
